History
The Executive Order Law (DFL) Nº 16 was published in the Diario Oficial during the second government of President Carlos Ibañez del Campo, creating the Ministry of Mines. Few months after its creation, this Ministry received its current name as Ministry of Mining under Rafael Tarud, Minister of Economy and Mining.
On March 21st, 1953, the Executive Order Law (DFL) Nº 16 was published in the Diario Oficial during the second government of President Carlos Ibañez del Campo, creating the Ministry of Mines. Shortly after, on August 5th, the DFL Nº 231 was passed, which gave the Ministry its current name.
From the very beginning, 41 Ministers have managed this government portfolio being Mr. Eduardo Paredes Martínez the first Minister of Mining. After 55 years of existence, Mrs. Michelle Bachelet Jeria, President of Chile, appointed Mr. Santiago González Larraín as Minister of Mining and Mrs. Verónica Baraona del Pedregal as Undersecretary, on January 8th, 2008.
The organic and statutory regulations rulling Ministry of Mining are included in DFL Nº 302 published in the Diario Oficial on April 6th, 1960.
